Weston Collective Highlight: Kristin Sollecito

The Photography of Kristin Sollecito

This work is a culmination of photos that I have taken of people that have influenced my life in a positive way. Personally, portraiture is a very important subject to me because it allows me to capture the beauty that I see in the people around me. Taking someone's portrait is another way for me to connect with that person and capture their essence in a single frame. I find that my biggest inspirations while capturing a photo stems from the light and shadows that exist in that environment.

My name is Kristin Sollecito and I am 23 years old. I started taking photos when I was around 10 years old with my family’s old point and shoot and have continued to shoot ever since. My love for photography grew during my high school and college photography courses where the darkroom became my happy place. I eventually graduated with an Associates degree in photography. I’ve shot weddings, concerts, fashion photography and portraits, which is my true passion, and have been a photojournalist for the Monterey County Weekly off and on for the past couple years. I have recently relocated to Brooklyn to gain further inspiration and to accelerate my career.

My favorite camera setup changes over time, but my current digital setup is a Canon 1DX Mk2 with a 24-70 f/2.8. My film setup is a Rolleicord from the late 1930s shot from the hip and a Canon AE-1 with a 50mm f/1.8.
