The Weston Collective’s Artist in Residence ‘23-’24

We are thrilled to announce that Daniel Gilbert, AKA, Mr. Eightthreeone will be the Weston Collective’s Artist in Residence for the 2023/2024 Academic Year. Daniel is a pillar in the community and he is always looking to uplift fellow artists with their artistic passions. Mr. Eightthreeone was introduced to us when he visited the Seaside studio for the culmination of Jorge Torres’ artist in residence exhibition. Since then, we have been keeping up to date with everything Daniel has been doing and he is always involved with interesting projects. We were thrilled when he was interested in being our second artist in resident at the Weston Collective. Daniel will be assisting with Facing Seaside III in the Fall and proposing a community project in the Spring.

Mr. Eightthreeone Artist Bio

My name is Daniel Gilbert but I prefer to go by Mr. Eightthreeone.

My primary medium for art is photography. It has really been more of a hobby over the past 5 years that I have been actively taking more seriously over the past year. I have no background in the art form and for the longest time, I wasn't sure where I wanted this art form to take me.

I started photography as a way to create content for my community page Eightthreeone that was geared towards highlighting the 831 community as a whole. Photography allows me to make content for socials but more importantly it allows me to make connections a little more easily. I see my camera as kind of an ice breaker at times.

For the longest time I didn't see myself as a creative but I came across a video that explained creativity can be seen as a muscle. The more you work on it the stronger it will become. My goal with the artist in residency is to help students and other creatives see that you don't have to be the most creative person around, you just need to find something that you love and our passionate about and just execute on enjoying yourself in that experience of creating.

I plan on executing in my creative experience by shooting nightlife, concerts, portraits, events, and editorials. There's still so much I want to do and so much knowledge I want to gain but most importantly, ai want to love the process.
