Scavenger Hunt on Wildcat Hill

©Michelle Magdalena

It is a tradition of New Bohemian Nights to host a scavenger hunt. Kim goes through the tour of Wildcat Hill explaining all the factoids scattered throughout the house. Wildcat Hill is a living museum with many objects in the same spot as when Edward lived there. The group was divided into five persons a team with the winning team each receiving a photography book. The teams had to take photographs of the clues given to them and, when finished, have them reviewed by Kim.

Reading from Elliot Ruchowitz-Roberts

We were graced by the elegant spoken word of Elliot Ruchowitz-Roberts by the fire on Wildcat Hill. Elliot is a New Bohemian Nights Event staple and recites poetry by Robinson Jeffers and Edward Weston’s Daybooks. You are transported back in time as you listen and dream about what life was like when the two artistic geniuses graced these lands.

Elliot’s Bio

Professor Emeritus at Monterey Peninsula College where he taught composition, literature, public speaking and humanities for 32 years, Ruchowitz-Roberts serves as President of the Robinson Jeffers Tor House Foundation. He also coordinates the Foundation’s annual Prize for Poetry and its annual reading series, and serves as a tour docent. He coordinated the National Endowment for the Arts “The Big Read: The Poetry of Robinson Jeffers,” during which he read and performed Jeffers’s poetry at venues throughout Monterey County, including local libraries, high schools and colleges.

Ruchowitz-Roberts served for some twenty-five years as Poet-in-the-Schools for the Carl Cherry Center for the Arts during which time he conducted poetry writing workshops in high schools throughout Monterey County and coordinated the annual Monterey County High School Poetry Awards.

Photography Selection

Each guest walked away with a silver gelatin photography from either Roman Loranc or Kim Weston. Some lucky guests received a painted photograph by Kim Weston. We are so indebted to Roman and Kim for generously donating their work to support the Weston Collective. The selection of work was outstanding!

The guests were giddy when selecting their numbers that corresponded with the photographs down in the studio.
