Darkroom After Hours
July 20th, 2023 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
The Weston Collective Studio in Seaside

Some of the community darkroom members showing off their mounted silver gelatin photographs!

The Weston Collective is a place for creative people to come together and build a strong community of artists. We believe it’s all about collaboration, learning, inspiring,  and genuinely caring for each other’s success. The darkroom course is a class that allows us to see how everyone approaches art in different ways.  Every Monday and Wednesday from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm, a group of photographers meets and learn every step of film development and printing, instructed by our photography educator Nadia Gutierrez. They learned step-by-step how to develop film, make contact sheets, use filters to change the contrast, and make a final silver gelatin print. More importantly, this class offers the opportunity for our artists to slow down, explore their ideas and experiment with their creativity.

They also learned how to put together a portfolio of 10 photos, spot, mount, and frame their prints. The following photographs are part of every artist’s portfolio collection, a diverse work of perspective, inspiration, and innovation. Capturing of reflections created by light sources interacting with metallic surfaces, underwater photos, double exposure, photos that give an essence of the moment captured, and photos that show structure and routine in a creative and expressive way. This is a journey of the joy of creation and creativity.
